JAMB Yoruba Examination Guide For 2026/2027
The Yoruba Language UTME exam is designed to test your proficiency and understanding of the Yoruba language. It evaluates a range of skills including comprehension, literature, cultural knowledge, and language use.
The exam covers various topics, such as reading and interpreting comprehension passages, writing essays, and understanding the sound system, grammar, and orthography of the language.
You will also be assessed on your knowledge of Yoruba literature—both oral and written—and the cultural aspects related to the language.
If you plan to study International Relations, Yoruba Language, Linguistics, or any course requiring a foreign language, you may be required to take the Yoruba Language exam.
The best preparation strategy is to familiarize yourself with the official JAMB syllabus and practice with past questions to improve your understanding of the exam format and question types.
The JAMB exam consists of 180 questions in total. The Use of English section has 60 questions, while the other three subjects, including Yoruba Language, consist of 40 questions each. All subjects, excluding Use of English, are graded with 2.5 marks per correct answer.
For example:
- If you answer 30 out of 60 questions correctly in the Use of English section, you’ll score: 3060×100=50%\frac{30}{60} \times 100 = 50\%6030×100=50%
- If you answer 28 out of 40 questions correctly in the Yoruba exam, you’ll score: 28×2.5=70% (70 marks)28 \times 2.5 = 70\% \, \text{(70 marks)}28×2.5=70%(70 marks)
Exam Structure:
The exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions based on the JAMB syllabus, which is divided into three sections:
- Language Section (Total: 20 questions):
- Comprehension (1 prose and 1 verse): 8 questions
- Essay writing: 1 question
- Sound system: 4 questions
- Grammar: 5 questions
- Current orthography: 2 questions
- Translation: 1 question
- Literature Section (Total: 10 questions):
- Oral literature: 4 questions
- Written literature: 6 questions
- Culture Section (Total: 9 questions)
By understanding these sections and practicing thoroughly, you can better prepare yourself for the exam and boost your chances of success.
Objective
The aim of this JAMB Economics Syllabus for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), is to prepare the candidates for the Board’s examination. It is designed to test their understanding of the course objectives, which are to:
- (1) Candidate must acquire the basic knowledge of Commerce;
- (2) Candidates should be able to examine the relationship between Commerce and other related fields;
- (3) Candidates should be able to apply the principles of Commerce in the Nigerian economy and
- (4) Candidates Should appreciate dynamic and positive changes in commercial activities
